Healthcare providers can now practice across state lines - one of the latest moves by the White House to contain the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
During a March 18th press conference, Vice President Pence said, “At the President’s discretion (the Health and Human Services Department) is issuing a regulation today that will allow all doctors and medical professionals to practice across state lines to meet the needs of hospitals that may arise in adjoining areas”
This comes after President Trump announced a temporary ruling allowing medicare patients "to visit any doctor by phone or video conference at no additional cost.”
The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) hasn’t yet elaborated on Pence’s statement, but the resolution won’t entirely completely remove interstate licensing and still gives state medical boards the authority to regulate providers in their state.
However, with interstate licensing restrictions nullified for the foreseeable future - health providers, hospitals, and practitioners now have the ability to treat patients in other states and improve access to their services.
